Vrunda Upadhyay is an accomplished dance and music artist based in Brampton, Canada, with over two decades of experience as a performer, educator, and choreographer. She holds a Master of Arts in Bharatanatyam and Bachelor of Arts in Music. She has been trained extensively in both Bharatanatyam and vocal music in India under distinguished gurus. Vrunda is the founder and artistic director of Mudra Traditional Arts Academy, where she mentors a vibrant community of students in Bharatanatyam, Indian vocal, and devotional music.
Deeply rooted in tradition yet guided by a contemporary lens, Vrunda’s work spans classical repertoire, creative choreography, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Her Bharatanatyam performances have been featured in prestigious festivals and cultural spaces across India and Canada. She continues to shape a meaningful diasporic dialogue through her art, connecting generations and communities through Indian classical traditions.
In addition to her performance work, Vrunda is a passionate teacher and mentor, having guided several students through their arangetrams and solo presentations. She believes in dance as a powerful medium of self-discovery, spiritual connection, and cultural continuity. As a singer, Vrunda’s vocal journey includes classical, semi-classical, and devotional forms, often woven into her dance presentations, creating a rich, immersive artistic experience.
Her choreographic explorations engage with the emotional and philosophical depth of Indian mythology and literature, often blending text, rhythm, and melody to create works that are both evocative and accessible. In 2024, Vrunda was honoured with the Arts Acclaim Citizen Award by the City of Brampton for her outstanding contribution to the cultural landscape.
